Home to the Festival du Bois, the City of Coquitlam, the 5th-largest city in British Columbia, is an ever-growing community governed by 127,000 proud and protective residents. The Coast Salish people were the first to live in this area, and archaeology confirms continuous occupation of the territory for at least 9,000 years. Following World War II, Coquitlam and the rest of Lower Mainland experienced substantial population growth that continues today. The opening of Lougheed Highway in 1953 made the city more accessible and set the stage for residential growth. In 1971, Coquitlam and Fraser Mills were amalgamated, which gave the city a larger industrial base. The city is situated approximately ten miles east of Vancouver and borders Burnaby and Port Moody, encompassing nearly sixty miles in total. Southwest Coquitlam comprises the original core of the city, with Maillardville and Fraser River industrial sector giving way to the large residential areas.
Coquitlam Town Centre is home to two major university campuses, therapeutic recreations, hotel & managements, and animal health technology programs. The West Coast Express provides commuter rail service to downtown Vancouver and east as far as the city of Mission. Beginning in summer 2016, the city will be served by the Evergreen Line, an extension of TransLink’s Sky Train system, at a cost of $1.4 billion. Being in close proximity to Vancouver and surrounded by the rest of the Lower Mainland, Coquitlam residents have access to virtually unlimited choice in cultural and leisure activities. Within the city itself are numerous venues that bring these choices closer to home.
Another method used quite often as a safe alternative in transportation is limousine service. It is quite common for large groups to gather any night of the week and step into a luxury limo bus, party bus or SUV limo awaiting instruction and be whisked away to Vancouver, the city of twinkling lights. Professional chauffeurs demonstrating superior navigational skills deliver their passengers safely and happily chirping their gratitude for one smooth ride assured the same chauffeur will return for the same relaxing ride home. Ah, what a spectacular night…
